In their final show of 2023, we launch our first Venture Arts exhibition at the stunning Manchester Craft and Design Centre. This year marks the 150 year anniversary of this historic building, situated in the creative hub that is Manchester’s Northern Quarter. In celebration, Venture Arts artist Michael Beard will be showing a series of new works inspired by Manchester architecture. Beard is well known for his large-scale drawings (Thumbs Up at Castlefield Gallery, 2020), which he continues to develop and explore, as well as working on a new body of work in ceramics, inspired by the Manchester skyline. As part of this exhibition, he will also be collaborating with ceramicist Sue Cragg, a Manchester Craft and Design Centre maker, on a series of functional items, which she will throw and he will decorate. We’re thrilled to be producing this exhibition in collaboration with Manchester Craft and Design Centre as part of their landmark anniversary.

Michael Beard
Michael Beard works across various disciplines including painting, illustration and ceramic sculpture. Michael’s artwork enables him to articulate his immense passion for travel. Compulsive writings of names of cities, famous towers and graphical signage and symbols that he identifies in each location, are strong themes in his work. The repetitive overlapping and fluidity of his handwriting conveys Michael’s vigorous energy and speed in which he creates his work.
